A True Friend
-Rachel Spaeth
In the darkness
That's where she hides
She hides all that she really is
She hides all that she thinks
All that she has
She hides all her pain
For she doesn't want anyone to see
how much she's really hurting
How much she has been hurt
How much she doesn't like herself
She's afraid of showing her true self
As if someone would condemn her
Condemn her if they saw the real her
She is so afraid of being hurt again,
of rejection
So in the dark corners is where she hides
Dark corners of her room
Weeping, sobbing, sighing
Wishing someone, anyone with a kind
heart, true heart, a loving, trusting
touch would reach out and take her hand
Take her hand and lead her into the light
and take the time to care
To take the time to help rid her heart of
all the pain and fill her with warmth, happiness
and love
Then one day he appears
He says, "I care, I want to help you, I love you,
I will be with you always, let me in, let me
help you. Take my hand."
He reaches out and she gives him her hand
He takes it with such love, such tenderness
He leads her out of the darkened corner and into
the light
His face so handsome, his inner beauty shines
through so brightly, his eyes filled with such love
For the first time in years, she smiles such a
lovely smile, filled with such hope and love
Her eyes begin to shine and fill with joy
For the first time she is no longer afraid
No longer afraid of being hurt, of not being
accepted, of being pushed aside as a nobody
She is a somebody, somebody very special
For now she knows that she is truly loved,
truly cared for and will never be alone again
Now she loves herself and has a true, loving
friend
His name, Jesus Christ
