Who Was Jesus Anyway?
-From alt.religion.christian-teen
April 1999

Jesus of Nazareth was the poor illegitimate son of a carpenter and a peasant who hung around with all the dregs of society and finally ended up as a "victim" of Roman justice. He was terminally unemployed, given to feasting and drinking, lived off of the kindness of others (a panhandler?) and constantly had run ins with the authorities. He was born amongst livestock laid in a feeding trough and illegally immigrated to a foreign land as a toddler. Some of his closest friends betrayed him either out of self preservation or for cold hard cash.

Yep. That was Jesus. Give or take a few lines. But overall, you've got it. No Christian is going to deny that. It was part of the plan. The Almighty Creator came to earth as part of the creation. He became the common man to lead the common people on the path of salvation. Jesus was a human, He would feel pain, sorrow, weakness, stress, and all other human emotions. God came to us as a mortal man to deliver mortal men. That's where Christianity is different from other religions. We don't worship a prophet, or a dead God. We worship a living God who loved us enough to come personally, in a form that we could understand and that we could relate to, to bring us to Him. Other religions have a God that is high and distant and that man has to reach out for. Christianity is God reaching down to man to show Him the way. He knew we could never make it on our own, so He became one of us.
