If the world around got the best of me

If I can’t see you, but I know you’re there
Am I listening for your voice?
If my mind wanders to another place

Or if the shouts of those around me overpowered me
Would I be able to hear your voice?

If my friends all left tomorrow
Would I listen to your voice?
If the pain turned into sorrow
Would I listen to your voice?
Or if I couldn’t see your will for all the endless strife
Would I still want to listen to your voice?

If I lost the one I loved
Could I listen to your voice?
If my fears became my destiny
Could I listen to your voice?
Or if I couldn’t seek your face through all the tears
Would I really listen to your voice?

If I gained a fortune
Would I hear your voice?
If fame were just a step away
Would I hear your voice?
Or if were poor and needy
Would I seek you and hear your voice?

If the evil one came calling
Would I hear your voice?
If he prodded and provoked me
Would I listen to your voice?
Or if he tried to deceive me
Would I still distinguish which is your voice?

If the other voices called me
Would I hear your voice?
If the crowd became my longing
Would I bother with your voice?
Or if my friends led me away from you
Would I still have time to listen
To your voice?
